Low-country Ruhuna Tea, Visit Tea Factory & Tea Plucking Experience
The teas of the Ruhuna district are defined as “low-grown” as they are cultivated at an altitude not exceeding 600m comprising vast sub regions from coastal plains to Southern edge of Sinharaja Rain Forest. The regions of Ruhuna is known for their long leaf tea. When tea from this region is brewed, you get a cuppa with a burgundy hue and a caramel and malty flavour. Ruhuna factories produce a wide variety of leaf styles and sizes, including prized “tips”. Sri Lanka is the fourth largest tea producer in the world.

In this village, skip passive vacation pastimes for a tea plucking experience on a plantation. Get on the field with estate workers, grab the necessary tools, and spend some time picking tea leaves. Receive a basket in which to collect your leaves and move to the tea fields where professional tea pluckers show you basic training on techniques, as only specific buds are picked for consumption. You’ll also witness all aspects of the tea-making process on a guided tour of a tea factory visit, taste a cup of local Ceylon tea.
A village escape awaits you!
